Public Mourning for Tanker Victims

An Iranian tanker carrying gas condensates collided with a Chinese freight ship in East China coast on January 6, 2018 and the 30 Iranians and the two Bangladeshi sailors, who were members of the crew, had unfortunately been killed due to toxic gas and the huge size of the fire.

The Iranian Cabinet in a statement declared Jan 15 (Monday) as a day of public mourning for the victims of the oil tanker inferno. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also issued a message sending his condolences over the death of the crew members of Sanchi oil tanker. “All the Iranian authorities, my colleagues in the Foreign Ministry and Iranian representatives in the region did their best to save the lives of those brave men. Unfortunately, however, a tragic fate awaited them and now we have to mourn their loss,” Zarif says in his message. Offering his condolences on the death of the Iranian sailors, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif vowed that the Foreign Ministry will pursue the case in order to find out the reasons that led to this tragic incident and assert the rights of the people of Iran and the families of the deceased.

Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran - Hong Kongexpresses condolences and offers sympathies to the families of the Sanchi oil tanker crews.
